A SHORT INTRODUCTION TO HOMEOPATHY
Homeopathy is a complete, gentle and holistic system of medicine based on a few very clear principles of nature. One of these is the ancient wisdom of "like cures like": a substance which can produce symptoms of illness in a healthy individual can cure similar symptoms in an ill person. If you cut an onion you may get similar symptoms to those of hayfever (streaming eyes, itchy nose) - Allium Cepa, made from onion, is one of many excellent homeopathic medicines or remedies for hayfever.
For homeopathy any recurrent symptom - chronic headaches, recurrent mouth ulcers, stomach ulcers, eczema, arthritis, depression and so on - is the expression of an underlying cause, an imbalance which the body is not able to redress on its own. Homeopathy’s main aim is to stimulate the body’s own healing power. The first signs of a return to health are often the patient’s own words: “I feel much better in myself”.
Homeopathic remedies can be made from any substance, mostly animal, plant and mineral substances. A sophisticated process of dilution and succussion or shaking is used to promote the natural healing properties of these substances. The stronger the remedy, the more diluted the substance. How it is possible that a medicine can be effective after this process is the subject of much current research. Everyday practice and plenty of scientific research show that homeopathy is indeed very effective. You will find evidence for this statement in the research section further below.
The following paragraphs have been taken from Dana Ullman’s e-book Homeopathy Family Medicine, with kind permission of the author. This is only a short section of a very interesting chapter on “Why homeopathy makes sense”, presenting the latest data about research into why homeopathy works. The whole book is a treasure-trove of information, and so is Dana’s website , where you can also order this and many other books.
“Homeopathy's principle of similars makes a profound contribution to understanding healing because inherent in this principle is a deep respect for the wisdom of the human body. Homeopathy's emphasis on individualizing a medicine to the totality of a person's symptoms, not just a person's specific disease is also wonderfully logical.
The difficult-to-understand part of homeopathy is the extreme microdoses used. In fact, according to present laws of physics, once a homeopathic medicine is diluted 1:10 24 times or 1:100 12 times, there should be no remaining molecules of the original substance.
However, as it turns out, new high tech research in 2010 has confirmed that the 30C and 200C potencies have evidence of the original molecular structure (Chikramane PS, Suresh AK, Bellare, 2010). Using market samples of metal-derived medicines from reputable manufacturers, scientists at the Department of Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology have demonstrated for the first time using Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), electron diffraction by Selected Area Electron Diffraction (SAED), and chemical analysis by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-AES), the presence of physical entities in these extreme dilutions in the form of nanoparticles of the starting metals and their aggregates. The metals tested in the 6C, 30C, and 200C were: Aurum met., Cuprum met, Argentum met, Zincum met., Stannum met., and Platina met.
Homeopaths acknowledge that there may not be any remaining molecules left in such medicines, but they also assert that a more powerful energy, essence, or information of the original substance seems to remain and actually increases with each potentization. They assert that 200 years of clinical experience by homeopaths throughout the world have confirmed and continue to confirm this observation. They acknowledge that they don't know how their medicines work, though various individuals have developed compelling theories.

If one considers that the human body is 70-80% water, perhaps the best way to provide pharmacological information to the body and into intercellular fluids is with nanopharmacological doses.
It is known that sound travels faster and easier in water than in air. Because homeopathic medicines are made in double-distilled water, it is quite possible that this pure water become imprinted with the information or frequency of the medicinal substance.
One of the most simple yet sophisticated explanations for how homeopathic doses maintain an active biological effect has been developed by two professors at the University of Arizona, Drs. Gary Schwartz and Linda Russek, and further characterized by two MD/homeopaths, Iris Bell, MD, PhD and David Riley, MD. They postulate the ―systematic memory hypothesis‖ (Schwartz and Russek, 1999; Schwartz, Russek, Bell, Riley, 2000). They assert that the water retains a memory of the medicinal substance, even after repeated dilutions. Further, they postulate that information and energy (IE) is stored in complex dynamical systems and that ―By reducing the material concentration (the physical dosage) of molecular systems in a diluent (such as water) and at the same time increasing the IE concentration (the IE dosage) in the diluent through repeated succussions (vigorous shakings) leading to increased systemic memory, IE resonance effects may be enhanced‖ (Schwartz, Russek, Bell, Riley, 2000). This memory may be analogous to taking a smaller and then smaller piece of a hologram. The picture of the whole original hologram remains in the decreasingly smaller piece.
A special issue of the journal Homeopathy, journal of the Faculty of Homeopathy and published by Elsevier, on the Memory of Water (July 2007) includes articles from scientists around the world for the first time to publish new data, reviews and discuss recent scientific work exploring the idea that water can display memory effects.
Guest editor Professor Martin Chaplin of the Department of Applied Science at London South Bank University, remarks: “There is strong evidence concerning many ways in which the mechanism of this ‘memory‘ may come about. There are also mechanisms by which such solutions may possess effects on biological systems which substantially differ from plain water”.
In this special issue of Homeopathy, scientists from the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, USA as well as the UK present remarkably convergent views from groups using entirely different methods, indicating that large-scale structural effects can occur in liquid water, and can increase with time. Such effects might account for claims of memory of water effects.
Commenting on the special issue, Professor Chaplin said: “Science has a lot more to discover about such effects and how they might relate to homeopathy. It is unjustified to dismiss homeopathy, as some scientists do, just because we don‘t have a full understanding of how it works.” In his overview he is critical of the “unscientific rhetoric” of some scientists who reject the memory of water concept “with a narrow view of the subject and without any examination or appreciation of the full body of evidence”. Homeopathic remedies are non-toxic, without side-effects. This does, however, not mean that they cannot cause aggravation of symptoms in the process of healing. If you plan to use homeopathic remedies for home treatment in first aid situations and for minor complaints, it is advisable to consult a homeopath or adequate homeopathic literature on the appropriate application. For each ailment there are many remedies and it can be difficult to find the one that works for you.
It is advisable that you tell your GP or specialist that you are seeing a homeopath. If you are taking drugs prescribed by your GP or specialist you should not stop these without proper consultation; homeopathic remedies can work well alongside most conventional drugs. Homeopathic remedies are also very useful before and after an operation or dental treatment, as research evidence shows that they can speed up the healing process considerably and reduce bruising.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A HOMEOPATHIC CONSULTATION?
During the first consultation I will take extensive notes of everything you are willing to share about your illness and about yourself in general. After careful analysis of all this information, I will then decide on a course of action and send you the appropriate homeopathic medicine. You will be asked to phone or email me about two weeks after taking the remedy, to discuss your progress.
Chronic illnesses have often developed over many years and normally take longer to improve. In such cases follow-up appointments will usually be at monthly intervals, sometimes for several months. Some patients may only need a single consultation and one or two telephone follow-ups.
The fee you pay always covers two months of treatment and all homeopathic remedies.
I only prescribe remedies over the phone if I have previously taken your complete case.
