“Leaving aside criticisms which are biased and prejudiced rather than objective and scientific, and ‘philosophical” rather than rational, the answer is simple and obvious:
Homeopathy works”

A VERY SHORT INTRODUCTION TO HOMEOPATHY

Homeopathy is a complete, gentle and holistic system of medicine based on a few very clear principles of nature. One of these is the ancient wisdom of "like cures like": a substance which can produce symptoms of illness in a healthy individual can cure similar symptoms in an ill person. If you cut an onion you will get similar symptoms to those of hayfever (streaming eyes, itchy nose) - Allium Cepa, made from onion, is one of many excellent homeopathic medicines or remedies for hayfever.

For homeopathy any recurrent symptom - chronic headaches, recurrent mouth ulcers, stomach ulcers, eczema, arthritis, depression and so on - is the expression of an underlying cause, an imbalance which the body is not able to redress on its own. Homeopathy’s main aim is to stimulate the body’s own healing power. The first signs of a return to health are often the patient’s own words: “I feel much better in myself”.

Homeopathic remedies are made from animal, plant and mineral substances. A sophisticated process of dilution and succussion or shaking is used to promote the natural healing properties of these substances. The stronger the remedy, the more diluted the substance. How it is possible that a medicine can be effective after this process is the subject of much current research. Everyday practice and plenty of scientific research show that homeopathy is indeed very effective. You will find evidence for this statement in the research section below.

The remedies are non-toxic, without side-effects. This does, however, not mean that they cannot cause aggravation of symptoms in the process of healing. If you plan to use homeopathic remedies for home treatment in first aid situations and for minor complaints, it is advisable to consult a homeopath or adequate homeopathic literature on the appropriate application. For each ailment there are many remedies and it can be difficult to find the one that works for you.

What Homeopathy can do for you

Homeopathy is especially helpful with chronic conditions. Studies and extensive clinical experience show that a huge range of conditions including acne, ADHD, asthma, autism, depression, eczema, fibromyalgia, glue ear, hayfever, IBS, ME, migraine, osteoarthritis, psoriasis, or rheumatoid arthritis have benefited from homeopathy. (see research section below)

Homeopathy can help to re-establish emotional balance in times of grief, shock, bereavement, or great stress.

Homeopathy has many very useful remedies for first aid situations and for all minor complaints such as sore throat, toothache or travel sickness.

Homeopathy has many remedies for problems occurring during pregnancy and child-birth.

Homeopathy is gentle and effective in the treatment of many children's ailments. For research related to children click here

Homeopathy can support general well-being throughout your life-time, making you less susceptible to colds, coughs and influenza, and better able to remain calm in times of trouble.

It is advisable that you tell your GP or specialist that you are seeing a homeopath. If you are taking drugs prescribed by your GP or specialist you should not stop these without proper consultation; homeopathic remedies can work well alongside most conventional drugs. Homeopathic remedies are also very useful before and after an operation or dental treatment, as they can speed up the healing process considerably and reduce bruising.

ABOUT MYSELF

I was born in Bremen, Northern Germany in 1947. Between 1957 and 1968 I lived with my parents in Colombia, South-America. From 1974 to 1981 I studied economics, sociology and social psychology at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and graduated in 1981 as Diplom-Soziologin (MA in Sociology).

In 1988 I moved to England. I took my PhD (doctorate) from the Faculty of Economics at Imperial College London in 1994.

I have lived and worked in many countries all over the world, consulting, teaching, researching. In 1996, while working in India for a year, I found a homeopath who cured me from twenty years of migraines. I became curious about it and its German origins.

After returning from India I studied homeopathy for four years at the London College of Classical Homeopathy and in 2003 I graduated with a licence to practice.

I am a registered member of The Society of Homeopaths, the largest organisation registering professional homeopaths in Europe. I practice in accordance with The Society's Code of Ethics and Practice, and carry full public liability and indemnity insurance.

I am also a founding trustee of Homeopathy: Medicine for the 21st Century. If you think homeopathy should be more easily available in the UK and if you want to support our work against the furious attacks on homeopathy, please have a look at our website www.hmc21.org.

Another role that is important to me is my contribution to Friends of the Children of Orissa, where I have been a trustee and honorary secretary for almost twenty years.

Last but not least, I would like to quote a friend in India who many years ago had been told by specialists that he had about six months to live. By chance he saw a homeopath who gave him some of those little white pills, and within two months he recovered. "Homeopathy?", my friend said, "I don't understand it, I don't believe in it but I am alive because of it!"
